NAD 306 Stereo Integrated Amplifier
NAD 306
was created by NAD Electronics is a brand name of an electronics firm whose products include home audiophile amplifiers and related components. NAD was an abbreviation for New Acoustic Dimension. The company was founded in London, England in 1972, its most famous product is the late-1970s NAD 3020 (must read), an integrated amplifier which was highly regarded by various magazines in Britain.
NAD’s philosophy is to include only genuinely useful features for aesthetically understated designs when compared to other competitors’ product.
I bought my NAD at the end of 90s and I’m still using it. It’s driving a pair of Klipsch RF 10 and it never seems to run out of energy or sag when you drive it hard.
Here is my Hi-Fi sound system:
The NAD 306 is an integrated amplifier with 50 watts of output power per channel, it has several facilities including tone controls while the classic NAD grey finish is a bit on the poor side, as usual. The overall sound can be described as powerful, dynamic and rhythmic. This is a highly musical amplifier with lively character. It likes to be driving hard, but it’s also a smoothie when required. Sound-stage is big and precise. Bass is deep and taut. Mid is articulate and lifelike, the treble is extended and detailed.
A great NAD 306 Stereo Integrated Amplifier feature is the input phono MM
How does it sound ?
The NAD 306 Stereo Integrated Amplifier is a very bright amplifier with a refined high range that gives a sense of open and detailed musical reproduction, this is particularly evident with female voices, clean, sweet and very, very well defined. NAD 306 is a lively good sounding integrated, which reproduces the Music with an outstanding sense of rhythm and pace. The phono input is very similar to the line ones, only a little bit sweeter.
Dynamics
Plus this amplifier sounds fast and well-paced so that the Music it plays seems more lively than usual. This amplifier is a clever mix of synergistic characteristics so that the overall balance of its sound is very good. I exclude the tone controls by means of the appropriate switch.
3D imaging
Stereo imaging is good, not for the dimensions of the virtual sound-stage but thanks to the focus and the precision of the image. Depth, height and width are average but the realism of the image is outstanding.
